Why Vorkath is the Best Solo Money Maker in OSRS
Vorkath is widely considered the most consistent and profitable solo boss in Old School RuneScape. After completing Dragon Slayer II, you can farm Vorkath for 3-5M GP per hour with the right gear and technique. Unlike other bosses, Vorkath has no RNG mechanics that can ruin your trips — every kill gives 130k+ guaranteed loot, making it incredibly consistent profit.
Dragon Hunter Crossbow vs Other Weapons
The Dragon Hunter Crossbow (DHCB) is the most important upgrade for Vorkath. It costs ~90M but provides a+30% accuracy and damage boost against dragons (Vorkath is a dragon-type monster). This translates to ~25% faster kill times compared to Armadyl Crossbow or Dragon Crossbow. If you can only afford one expensive item, buy DHCB first — it's worth more than full Armadyl armor in terms of DPS increase.
Budget alternative: Dragon Crossbow (~2M) is 80% as effective as DHCB. You'll get 25-28 kills/hr instead of 32-35, but still make 3-3.5M GP/hr. Save up for DHCB by doing Vorkath with Dragon Crossbow first.
Elite Void vs Armadyl Armor
Many players assume Armadyl armor is better than Void because of the higher Ranged bonus. However, Elite Void Ranged is superior at Vorkath. Elite Void gives +12.5% Ranged damage and +10% Ranged accuracy, which stacks multiplicatively with your weapon. This beats the flat +40 Ranged bonus from Armadyl when using DHCB. Additionally, Elite Void only takes 4 inventory slots (helmet, top, bottom, gloves) vs 8+ for full Armadyl, giving you more space for food.
To get Elite Void: Complete Western Provinces Elite diary. If you don't have Elite Void yet, use Blessed D'hide armor (costs ~500k for full set) as a budget option until you unlock it.
Mastering Vorkath's Mechanics
Vorkath has a predictable attack pattern with 3 special attacks that rotate in order:
- Pink Dragonfire: One-hit KO attack in a straight line. Move 2 tiles left/right as soon as he rears back.
- Acid Pool Phase: Spawns acid pools in lines. Basic strategy: run side to side. Advanced: Woox Walk (attack while moving).
- Zombie Spawn: Spawns frozen zombie that walks toward you. Cast Crumble Undead immediately (turn off Protect from Magic).
The specials always happen in this order, so you can predict what's coming next. After mastering the patterns, Vorkath becomes very safe — most players use less than 10 food per kill once experienced.
Why Woox Walk Matters
The "Woox Walk" is an advanced technique during acid phase where you attack Vorkath between movement steps. Normally, players stop attacking during acid phase (losing ~30 seconds of DPS). Woox Walking lets you continue dealing damage while dodging acid pools. The technique: Attack → Step 1 tile → Attack → Step 1 tile (repeat). Move perpendicular to where acid spawns.
This adds 3-5 extra attacks per kill, increasing your DPS by 15-20% and boosting kills/hr from 28 to 32-35. It's difficult to learn but becomes muscle memory after 50-100 kills. Watch YouTube tutorials and practice on a metronome until you get the rhythm down.
Long-term Profit Expectations
Over 1,000 Vorkath kills (~30 hours), you can expect:
- 130M+ from regular loot (130k per kill × 1,000 kills)
- 20% chance at Skeletal Visage (+28M if you get it)
- 20% chance at Draconic Visage (+3.5M if you get it)
- ~30 Dragonbone Necklaces (+13.5M combined)
Total expected profit: 140-150M per 1,000 kills. At 32 kills/hr, that's ~30 hours of work for 140M+ profit. Compare this to most other bosses where you rely on rare drops for profit — Vorkath's consistent 130k per kill means you're always making money even without rares.
