Requirements

Quest Requirements:

  • Dragon Slayer II (required to access Vorkath)
  • → Requires 200 Quest Points, 75 Magic, 70 Smithing, 68 Mining, 62 Crafting, 60 Agility, 60 Thieving, 50 Construction

Minimum Combat Stats:

  • 85+ Ranged (90+ highly recommended)
  • 75+ Defence (for Blessed D'hide, tankiness)
  • 85+ Hitpoints (90+ recommended)
  • 44+ Prayer (Protect from Magic, 74+ for Rigour is huge boost)
  • 50+ Magic (for Crumble Undead to kill spawned zombie)

Recommended Unlocks:

  • Rigour prayer unlock (74 Prayer + Dexterous scroll) — +23% ranged damage and accuracy
  • Elite Void from Western Provinces Elite diary — Best DPS armor for Vorkath
  • 94 Magic for Vengeance — Extra 20-40 damage per kill adds up
  • Ornate Rejuvenation Pool in POH — Instant restore between trips
Gear Setups — Elite Void vs Armadyl
Dragon Hunter Crossbow is the most important upgrade (+30% accuracy and damage vs dragons)

Best in Slot Setup (5M+ GP/hr):

Weapon:

Dragon Hunter Crossbow (~90M)

Ammo:

Ruby Dragon Bolts (e) → Diamond (e) at 50% HP

Head:

Elite Void Ranged Helm

Cape:

Ava's Assembler (or Ava's Accumulator)

Neck:

Salve Amulet (ei) (+20% damage vs undead, doesn't stack with Slayer helm)

Body:

Elite Void Top

Legs:

Elite Void Robe

Boots:

Pegasian Boots (~25M, or Blessed boots)

Ring:

Ring of Suffering (i) (~15M, recoil effect + prayer bonus)

Gloves:

Barrows Gloves (or Blessed vambraces)

Total cost: ~150M (mostly DHCB). Achieves 32-35 kills/hr, 4-5M GP/hr

Budget Setup (3M+ GP/hr):

Weapon: Dragon Crossbow (~2M) or Armadyl Crossbow (~25M if you have it)

Armor: Blessed D'hide top, bottom, coif, boots, vambraces (~500k total)

Ammo: Ruby Dragon Bolts (e) → Diamond Dragon Bolts (e)

Rest: Salve (ei), Ava's Assembler, Barrows Gloves, Ring of Suffering or Archers Ring

This budget setup still achieves 25-28 kills/hr and 3-3.5M GP/hr. Main bottleneck is weapon DPS.

Alternative: Melee Setup (Advanced)

Dragon Hunter Lance (~70M) with Bandos or Torva armor. Slightly slower kills but viable if you prefer melee.

Ranged is still recommended for easier mechanics (no need to run under boss).

Optimal Inventory Setup
Efficient inventory for 3-4 kills per trip (banking with house teleport)

Essential Items (7 slots):

  • Extended Super Antifire (4 doses) — Blocks dragonfire completely
  • Divine Ranging or Super Ranging potion
  • Rune Pouch (Chaos, Dust, Law runes for Crumble Undead spell)
  • Special attack weapon: Bandos Godsword or Dragon Warhammer in inventory
  • House teleport (Construct cape, house tabs, or POH teleport)
  • 2-3 Prayer potions (for Rigour + Protect from Magic)

Food (21 slots):

  • Manta Rays or Anglerfish (best healing)
  • Sharks (budget option)
  • Karambwans (combo eating if needed)

Optional Upgrades:

  • Vengeance runes (if 94 Magic) for extra damage
  • Blood Fury amulet (passive healing, alternative to Salve)
Complete Kill Strategy — Phase by Phase

Phase 1: Initial Setup (Before Wake)

  1. 1. Drink Extended Super Antifire + Ranging potion before entering instance
  2. 2. Activate Protect from Magic and Rigour (or Eagle Eye)
  3. 3. Poke Vorkath to wake him (he's asleep initially, click to start fight)

Phase 2: Main Combat Loop

  1. 1. Attack Vorkath normally. He uses 3 attack styles randomly:
  2. Ranged attack: Blue projectile (Protect from Magic blocks it)
  3. Magic attack: Teal projectile (Protect from Magic blocks it)
  4. Dragonfire: Orange fire breath (Extended Super Antifire blocks it completely)
  5. 2. Keep attacking until special attack (happens every 6-7 normal attacks)
  6. 3. Special attacks rotate in order: Pink Dragonfire → Acid Pool → Zombie Spawn (repeat)

Special Attack #1: Pink Dragonfire

  • • Vorkath rears back and shoots a one-hit KO pink dragonfire in a straight line
  • Counter: As soon as you see him rear back, move 2+ tiles to the side (left or right)
  • • The fireball travels in a straight line where you were standing
  • • After dodging, immediately continue attacking

Special Attack #2: Acid Pool Phase

  • • Vorkath spits acid pools that spawn in a line, dealing rapid damage if you stand on them
  • Basic method: Run side to side to avoid pools, stop attacking temporarily
  • Advanced (Woox Walk): Walk in a zig-zag pattern while attacking between steps
  • • Acid phase lasts ~30 seconds, then Vorkath becomes attackable again

Special Attack #3: Zombie Spawn

  • • Vorkath spawns a frozen zombie that walks toward you
  • • If it reaches you, it explodes for 60+ damage and heals Vorkath for ~100 HP
  • Counter: Immediately switch to Mage weapon (or fists) and cast Crumble Undead spell
  • • One cast kills the zombie instantly (Crumble Undead is in your Rune Pouch)
  • • Turn OFF Protect from Magic temporarily (Crumble Undead needs to hit, prayer blocks it)
  • • After killing spawn, turn Protect from Magic back on and continue attacking Vorkath

Phase 3: Low HP (Below 50%)

  1. 1. When Vorkath drops below ~265 HP (50%), switch from Ruby Bolts (e) to Diamond Bolts (e)
  2. 2. Ruby bolt special effect (Blood Forfeit) loses effectiveness at low HP, Diamond bolts deal more consistent damage
  3. 3. Continue dodging mechanics and attacking until Vorkath dies

Advanced Tips for Maximum Efficiency

Master the Woox Walk: Practice during acid phase. Attack → step 1 tile → attack → step (perpendicular to acid). Adds 15-20% DPS and 3-5 extra kills per hour. Watch YouTube tutorials to learn the rhythm.

Bolt switch timing: Swap to Diamond Dragon Bolts (e) when Vorkath hits 265 HP (~50%). Ruby bolt spec damage is capped at 100, so Diamonds are better DPS at low HP.

BGS spec strategy: Use Bandos Godsword special attack at start of each kill (if you have 50%+ spec energy). Each successful hit reduces Vorkath's Defense, speeding up kills by 10-15 seconds.

POH setup is essential: Have Ornate Rejuvenation Pool (restores all stats + spec), Portal Nexus with Fremennik Province, and Fairy Ring. This makes banking take 30-40 seconds instead of 2+ minutes.

Don't use Slayer helm: Salve Amulet (ei) is BETTER than Slayer helmet (i) at Vorkath. Salve gives +20% damage/accuracy vs undead, while Slayer helm is only +16.67%. They don't stack, so use Salve.

Turn on Entity Hider: In Runelite settings, enable "Hide players" to reduce lag when world is crowded. Vorkath is an instance so other players don't affect you.

Vengeance for extra damage: If you have 94 Magic, cast Vengeance before each kill. It reflects 75% of damage taken, adding 20-40 free damage per kill (Vorkath will hit you even with prayers up).

Rigour is the biggest DPS upgrade: 74 Prayer + Dexterous prayer scroll (~60M) gives +23% ranged damage/accuracy. This is worth MORE than upgrading from Dragon Crossbow to DHCB in terms of DPS increase.

Extended Antifire vs Regular: Always use Extended Super Antifire (not regular). Extended version gives 6 minutes of immunity vs 3 minutes, letting you do 4-5 kills per dose instead of 2-3. Saves inventory space and GP long-term.

Why Vorkath is the Best Solo Money Maker in OSRS

Vorkath is widely considered the most consistent and profitable solo boss in Old School RuneScape. After completing Dragon Slayer II, you can farm Vorkath for 3-5M GP per hour with the right gear and technique. Unlike other bosses, Vorkath has no RNG mechanics that can ruin your trips — every kill gives 130k+ guaranteed loot, making it incredibly consistent profit.

Dragon Hunter Crossbow vs Other Weapons

The Dragon Hunter Crossbow (DHCB) is the most important upgrade for Vorkath. It costs ~90M but provides a+30% accuracy and damage boost against dragons (Vorkath is a dragon-type monster). This translates to ~25% faster kill times compared to Armadyl Crossbow or Dragon Crossbow. If you can only afford one expensive item, buy DHCB first — it's worth more than full Armadyl armor in terms of DPS increase.

Budget alternative: Dragon Crossbow (~2M) is 80% as effective as DHCB. You'll get 25-28 kills/hr instead of 32-35, but still make 3-3.5M GP/hr. Save up for DHCB by doing Vorkath with Dragon Crossbow first.

Elite Void vs Armadyl Armor

Many players assume Armadyl armor is better than Void because of the higher Ranged bonus. However, Elite Void Ranged is superior at Vorkath. Elite Void gives +12.5% Ranged damage and +10% Ranged accuracy, which stacks multiplicatively with your weapon. This beats the flat +40 Ranged bonus from Armadyl when using DHCB. Additionally, Elite Void only takes 4 inventory slots (helmet, top, bottom, gloves) vs 8+ for full Armadyl, giving you more space for food.

To get Elite Void: Complete Western Provinces Elite diary. If you don't have Elite Void yet, use Blessed D'hide armor (costs ~500k for full set) as a budget option until you unlock it.

Mastering Vorkath's Mechanics

Vorkath has a predictable attack pattern with 3 special attacks that rotate in order:

  1. Pink Dragonfire: One-hit KO attack in a straight line. Move 2 tiles left/right as soon as he rears back.
  2. Acid Pool Phase: Spawns acid pools in lines. Basic strategy: run side to side. Advanced: Woox Walk (attack while moving).
  3. Zombie Spawn: Spawns frozen zombie that walks toward you. Cast Crumble Undead immediately (turn off Protect from Magic).

The specials always happen in this order, so you can predict what's coming next. After mastering the patterns, Vorkath becomes very safe — most players use less than 10 food per kill once experienced.

Why Woox Walk Matters

The "Woox Walk" is an advanced technique during acid phase where you attack Vorkath between movement steps. Normally, players stop attacking during acid phase (losing ~30 seconds of DPS). Woox Walking lets you continue dealing damage while dodging acid pools. The technique: Attack → Step 1 tile → Attack → Step 1 tile (repeat). Move perpendicular to where acid spawns.

This adds 3-5 extra attacks per kill, increasing your DPS by 15-20% and boosting kills/hr from 28 to 32-35. It's difficult to learn but becomes muscle memory after 50-100 kills. Watch YouTube tutorials and practice on a metronome until you get the rhythm down.

Long-term Profit Expectations

Over 1,000 Vorkath kills (~30 hours), you can expect:

  • 130M+ from regular loot (130k per kill × 1,000 kills)
  • 20% chance at Skeletal Visage (+28M if you get it)
  • 20% chance at Draconic Visage (+3.5M if you get it)
  • ~30 Dragonbone Necklaces (+13.5M combined)

Total expected profit: 140-150M per 1,000 kills. At 32 kills/hr, that's ~30 hours of work for 140M+ profit. Compare this to most other bosses where you rely on rare drops for profit — Vorkath's consistent 130k per kill means you're always making money even without rares.
