Wintertodt Strategy — How to Play

Wintertodt is a boss encounter where you help keep braziers lit while taking cold damage. Follow this 5-phase strategy each round:

1. Light the Braziers
Start each round by lighting all 4 braziers. This gives points and helps the team. Use your tinderbox on unlit braziers.
25 points per brazier
2. Chop Bruma Roots
Chop bruma roots from the tree near your brazier. Higher Woodcutting level = faster chopping. Bank when inventory is full or round ends.
10 Firemaking XP per root
3. Feed the Brazier
Add bruma roots to lit braziers for points. Each root gives Firemaking XP. Fletch roots into kindling for 60% more points but takes longer.
25 points per root (40 for kindling)
4. Fix Brazier
When brazier breaks, repair it with hammer. Interrupting player earns points. Fix quickly to minimize downtime.
25 points per repair
5. Use Healing Potions
Cold damage increases as round progresses. Heal using the rejuvenation potions available in the minigame (craft at potion table). No need to bring food—potions are provided in-game and heal based on your Herblore level.
No XP, but necessary

Pro Wintertodt Tips

Start at 10 HP: Many players rush Wintertodt at level 50 with 10 HP to minimize healing needed. Lower HP = less damage taken. Use in-game healing potions instead of bringing food.

Fletch for points: Fletching bruma roots into kindling gives 60% more points but is slower. Only fletch if you need 500+ points for crate

Open crates at 99: Save all crates until 99 Firemaking for best rewards (scales with FM level)

Herblore Level Matters: Higher Herblore increases healing from in-game rejuvenation potions. Train Herblore for better sustain during longer rounds.

Bank near start: Rejoin quickly after banking to maximize points. Stand near door at 0% energy

Target 500 points: 500+ points guarantees crate reward. Under 500 = chance of no crate

Pick one brazier: Stick to one brazier the entire round for consistent points

1-99 Firemaking Training Path

1-50

Regular Line Firemaking

Burn oak/willow logs in a line. Quick to 50 (2-3 hours). Do this in Wintertodt world for convenience.

50-99

Wintertodt Only

Stay at Wintertodt from 50-99. Takes 40-60 hours, gives 10-20M+ profit, includes Pyromancer outfit. This is the fastest and most profitable method by far.

Complete Wintertodt Guide for OSRS Firemaking

Wintertodt revolutionized Firemaking training when it was released. Instead of mindlessly burning logs in lines, players can now train at this group boss minigame for 6x faster XP, profit, and engaging gameplay. This guide covers everything you need to know to efficiently train from 50-99 Firemaking.

What is Wintertodt?

Wintertodt is a boss located in Great Kourend that requires 50 Firemaking to access. Players work together (or solo) to subdue the boss by keeping braziers lit with bruma roots. The minigame lasts 5-15 minutes per round depending on player count, and rewards supply crates containing valuable items, seeds, herbs, ores, and rare uniques.

Why Train Firemaking at Wintertodt?

Traditional Firemaking involves burning logs in lines, giving around 40k-60k XP/hr. Wintertodt provides 250k-350k XP/hr, making it 6x faster. Additionally, it costs zero GP and actually gives 200k-400k GP profit per hour from supply crates. You'll also unlock the Pyromancer outfit (2.5% XP boost) and have a chance at the rare Tome of Fire (1/1000) and Phoenix pet (1/5000 at 99).

10 HP Wintertodt Strategy

A popular strategy is to rush Wintertodt at 10 HP. Since cold damage scales with your Hitpoints level, keeping HP at 10 means you take minimal damage and need less healing. Players use the rejuvenation potions available in-game (craft at the potion table in Wintertodt). Many players do Wintertodt immediately after Tutorial Island at combat level 3, then use the profit to fund other skills. This is especially popular for ironman accounts.

Solo vs Mass Worlds

Mass worlds (309, 311) are recommended for beginners. Rounds are faster, easier, and less healing-intensive. However, you earn fewer points and get fewer rewards per hour. Solo Wintertodt (world 327) gives maximum points (750-1000+) and better rewards, but requires more healing (higher Herblore helps), focus, and time per round. Most efficient players use solo worlds.

How to Maximize Points

Points determine your rewards. To maximize points: (1) Light all 4 braziers at round start, (2) Chop and burn consistently, (3) Fix braziers immediately when broken, (4) Fletch roots into kindling if you need extra points. Aim for 500+ points per round to guarantee a supply crate. Higher points = better crate rewards.

Best Gear for Wintertodt

Wear 4+ pieces of warm clothing to reduce damage. Options include: Graceful outfit (counts as warm), Clue hunter outfit, Fire/Spotted cape, Yak-hide armor, or Pyromancer outfit. Bring the best axe you can use (dragon or crystal), a hammer, knife, and tinderbox. No need to bring food—use the rejuvenation potions in-game (crafted at the potion table). Weight-reducing gear helps with stamina.

Wintertodt Rewards

Supply crates contain seeds (ranarr, snapdragon, torstol), herbs, ores, gems, and runes. Total loot averages 200k-400k GP/hr. Unique drops include: Pyromancer outfit (must-have 2.5% XP boost), Bruma torch (useful warm item), Tome of Fire (1/1000 chance, BiS fire spell book), and Phoenix pet (1/5000 at level 99). Many players save all crates until 99 Firemaking to maximize rewards.
