How High Alchemy Works
High Alchemy is a single-target Magic spell that converts an item into coins. The spell pays out the item's "high alch value" (a fixed value assigned by the game) and costs one Nature rune per cast. When evaluating an item's profitability, you should consider the item's current Grand Exchange buy price and the market price of Nature runes.
Example
Suppose an item has a high alch value of 3,000 GP and costs 2,700 GP to buy on the Grand Exchange. If the Nature rune costs 200 GP, then profit per cast is:
3,000 (alch value) - 2,700 (buy price) - 200 (nature rune) = +100 GP
Common Profitable Items
- Battlestaves (when staff components are cheap)
- Dhide bodies (rarely, depending on market)
- Low-tier rune items during market swings
Tips
- Always check the current GE buy price for the item and the current Nature rune price before mass alching.
- Consider the margin after taxes and GE fees if you're flipping items yourself.
- Use this tool together with the GE Price Tracker for up-to-date prices.
