How to download HDOS
HDOS is the Jagex-approved HD / 2009-era graphics client for Old School RuneScape. Grab the installer for your OS below — these are the same official files from the hdos.dev Download menu, not homepage-only redirects.

What you are downloading
HDOS (High-Detail Old School) restores nostalgic HD-era visuals while you play current OSRS. It supports plugins (including importing many RuneLite profile settings), higher FPS caps, and launch via the Jagex Launcher after a full restart.
Install steps
- Click the download that matches your machine (Windows 64-bit is the default for most PCs).
- Run the
.exe/.dmg/ Flatpak install / JAR for your platform. - Fully quit the Jagex Launcher, then open it again so HDOS is detected.
- Select HDOS as the client, log in, and play.
Which file do I need?
Windows
Almost everyone wants 64-bit (HDOSSetup.exe). Use 32-bit only on old 32-bit Windows installs.
macOS
Apple Silicon → ARM64 .dmg. Intel Mac → x86_64 .dmg.
Linux / Java
Linux users: install via Flathub (dev.hdos.HDOS). Advanced / portable: Java hdos-launcher.jar.

- Where do I safely download HDOS?

- Is HDOS allowed by Jagex?
- Yes. HDOS is on Jagex’s approved third-party client list alongside RuneLite. Stick to the official build — not forks that promise bots or unpaid “premium” clients.
- Why doesn’t HDOS show in the Jagex Launcher?
- After installing HDOS, fully quit the Jagex Launcher (check Task Manager / force quit), then reopen it. A soft close often leaves the old process running so the new client never appears.
- Which Mac download should I pick?
- Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) → ARM64 .dmg. Older Intel Macs → macOS Intel x86_64 .dmg. If you are unsure, Apple menu → About This Mac shows the chip.
- Can I import my RuneLite plugins into HDOS?
- HDOS supports many RuneLite-style plugins and can import settings from a RuneLite profile. Exact plugin availability differs — check inside the client after install.
- Is the Java JAR the same as the Windows installer?
- The JAR is a portable Java launcher for users who prefer not to use the native installer. Most Windows players should use the 64-bit Setup .exe.
