How to appeal an OSRS ban

There is no trick to getting unbanned. Submit an offence appeal to Jagex. If the ban was caused by a hijacker or applied incorrectly, say exactly that and give a short, factual timeline.

Go straight to the official form

Sign in through RuneScape Support and select the offence you want reviewed. Check the domain before entering any login details.

Before you appeal

Make sure you are using the right process. A ban stops a character from logging in. A mute is also handled as an offence. If the problem is a lost password, changed email, or inaccessible authenticator, use account recovery instead.

The appeal process

  1. Sign in and open the offence attached to the banned character.
  2. Submit the appeal with information relevant to that offence.
  3. Jagex emails its decision and reasoning after a JMod review.
  4. If the first appeal is denied and you still believe it is wrong, the current system allows a second review. Add information you missed the first time.

After two denied appeals, Jagex considers the case closed. Its September 2025 support update also notes that real-world trading offences may have more limited further review because they are checked before being issued.

What to put in the appeal

Keep it short. Jagex has the account and game logs; a long argument will not replace them. Include the facts that help a reviewer understand why the offence is wrong.

  • The offence you are disputing.
  • Whether you had control of the account when it happened.
  • If hijacked: roughly when you lost and recovered access, plus any unfamiliar changes you found.
  • Anything materially different that belongs in a second appeal.

A useful hijack appeal is this simple:

I did not have control of the account between [approximate dates]. I recovered it on [date] and then found [unfamiliar changes]. I believe the [offence] occurred while the account was hijacked. Please review the login and activity history for that period.

Do not invent a hijack, send fake evidence, threaten support staff, or paste a template claiming innocence if it is not true.

Old bans

Jagex says bans in place for six years or longer cannot be recovered. The account or the data needed to identify and review it may have been deleted or anonymised under its retention policy. A support ticket cannot recreate that evidence.

Nobody can sell you an unban

“Unban services”, Discord middlemen, JMod contacts, and account wipes are scams. Only Jagex can change an offence. Never give a seller your password, backup codes, recovery answers, email access, or payment.

If the account is returned

Change the password and secure the email attached to the account. Enable an authenticator, review linked accounts, set a bank PIN, and upgrade to a Jagex Account if appropriate. Do this before playing or moving items.

Common questions

Can an OSRS permanent ban be appealed?
Yes, if the offence is eligible and you believe it was applied incorrectly. Jagex provides the appeal form through RuneScape Support. Only Jagex can remove the ban.
Can I appeal an OSRS ban twice?
Jagex introduced a second review in September 2025. Its support page says the first and second appeals are manually reviewed; after two denials the case is closed. Some offence types may have narrower review options.
Can an old RuneScape account be unbanned?
Not if the ban has been in place for six years or longer. Jagex says the account or evidence needed to review it may no longer exist because of its data-retention obligations.
Can somebody on Discord get my account unbanned?
No. A seller claiming to have a JMod contact or an unban method is trying to scam you. Do not give them your login, recovery details, email access, or money.
