Blast Furnace — Ore In, Bars Out
The Blast Furnace in Keldagrim smelts bars with half the coal of a normal furnace (and none for gold). You buy ore on the GE, process on an official Blast Furnace world, and sell bars. Which metal prints money changes week to week — treat every GP/hr claim as stale until you check the spread yourself.
Skip if: ore→bar margin is negative after GE tax and coffer, or you hate inventory juggling for more than 20 minutes.
Gold often 300k–1M+ when ore is cheap; metals flip
Gold with ice gloves; coal metals slower
Gold 40 · mith 50 · addy 70 · rune 85
Click-heavy; stamina helps
Hard gates
- Started The Giant Dwarf — Keldagrim / Blast Furnace access
- Smithing level for the bar: 40 gold, 50 mithril, 70 adamantite, 85 runite
- Coins for the foreman fee if under 60 Smithing, and a funded coffer so the furnace stays running
- Capital for ore (and coal on non-gold bars) — test 500–1k ore before bulk
Recommended
- Ice gloves — take gold bars without cooling the dispenser
- Goldsmith gauntlets (Family Crest) — massive gold Smithing XP while you smelt; swap with ice gloves each inventory if you care about both speed and XP
- Coal bag — doubles coal per trip on mith/addy/rune
- Graceful + stamina potions; Blast Furnace worlds with dwarves operating machinery
- 60 Smithing so you stop paying the foreman
Gold bars (most common money method)
- Confirm gold ore buy vs gold bar sell on GE Tracker / Blast Furnace calculator. Include GE tax on bars.
- Hop to a Blast Furnace world. Deposit coins in the coffer if needed.
- Bank: fill inventory with gold ore. Wear ice gloves (or swap after smelting if using goldsmith gauntlets for XP).
- Put ore on the conveyor belt. Collect bars from the bar dispenser.
- Bank bars, withdraw ore, repeat. Sell bars when the stack is large enough to list cleanly.
Coal metals (mith / addy / rune)
- Load coal bag + inventory with the correct ore:coal ratio for Blast Furnace (half normal coal).
- Dump coal first or as the world expects, then ore; collect bars; refill from bank.
- Stamina + graceful matter more here — more running, more coal juggling.
- Buy: ore (+ coal for mith/addy/rune), stamina potions
- Ongoing: coffer drain while the furnace is active; foreman fee under 60 Smithing
- Sell:bars on the GE — watch buy walls; "guide price" is not what you get instantly
- Gear you keep: ice gloves, coal bag, goldsmith gauntlets — not consumables
Thin margins die to GE tax and slow sells. If you cannot move bars within a session, that metal is not your money maker today.
Profit formula: (bar sell − GE tax) − ore − coal − coffer/foreman − stamina. Almost all GP is stable processing spread, not RNG — unless you count the risk that prices move while you hold inventory.
- Gold: usually highest liquidity and XP; often best when ore dips
- Rune/addy: higher GP per bar on paper, worse if coal is expensive or bars dump slowly
- Wiki GP/hr assumes instant GE fills — real rates are lower
- Recheck spreads every session; yesterday's gold profit can be today's loss
- Ice gloves on gold — never cool with a bucket unless you have no gloves
- Goldsmith gauntlets for XP inventories; ice gloves to collect — two-tick swap habit
- Keep coffer topped so the machine does not stop mid-inventory
- Buy ore below mid, sell bars with a slight undercut — do not market-buy into a dead wall
- Process a 1k test batch before dumping 50k ore into the method
- Coal bag is non-negotiable for sustained mith/addy/rune trips
- Ignoring GE tax and calling a 5 GP/bar "profit"
- Letting the coffer run dry and standing around confused
- Smelting rune because it sounds rich while gold is actually printing
- No coal bag on coal metals — halving trip size for no reason
- Using a non-Blast-Furnace world and wondering why you need to operate everything yourself
