How Death Rune Shop Runs Work

Magic shops across Gielinor stock death runes that restock every ~24 minutes. You buy them for 200 GP each, then sell on the Grand Exchange for 240-250 GP each. That's 40-50 GP profit per rune, or 20-25% return on investment.

The Method:

  1. 1. Teleport to magic shop (Varrock, Port Sarim, Yanille, etc.)
  2. 2. Buy all death runes from shop (they cost 200 GP each)
  3. 3. World hop and buy again (stock is per-world, not per-player)
  4. 4. Repeat across multiple worlds until inventory full
  5. 5. Sell on Grand Exchange for 240+ GP each

Optimal Shop Run Route

Start at Grand Exchange

Bring 500k-1M GP in coins and teleport runes/tablets. Rune pouch recommended.

Yanille Magic Guild (Priority)

Watchtower teleport → go to basement → buy all 1,000 death runes (200k GP). World hop, buy 1,000 more. Do 3-5 worlds.

Varrock teleport → Aubury's shop → buy 250 death runes. World hop and repeat.

Profit Calculation

Per-World Profit (Yanille only):

  • • Buy 1,000 death runes @ 200 GP = 200,000 GP cost
  • • Sell 1,000 death runes @ 240 GP = 240,000 GP revenue
  • • Profit = 40,000 GP per world
  • • Time per world = ~30-45 seconds (teleport + buy + hop)

Hourly Profit Estimate:

  • Casual (10 worlds/hr): 10 × 40k = 400k GP/hr
  • Moderate (15 worlds/hr): 15 × 40k = 600k GP/hr
  • Efficient (20+ worlds/hr): 20 × 40k = 800k-1M GP/hr

Add Varrock + Port Sarim shops for extra 100-200k GP/hr if you have spare time.

Pro Tips for Maximum Profit

Use world hopper plugin: Runelite's World Hopper lets you hop in 1 click. Set favorite worlds (avoid high-ping, PvP, skill total worlds).

Yanille is 80% of profit: Magic Guild basement has 1,000 stock vs 250 for other shops. Always prioritize Yanille first.

Check GE price before starting: Death runes fluctuate 235-260 GP. If price drops below 235, wait a day. Ideal buy at 240+.

Perfect for alt accounts: You can do this on multiple accounts simultaneously. 2 alts = 1M+ GP/hr total with minimal attention.

Rune Pouch saves space: Store Law/Air/Fire runes in pouch for teleports. Frees 2-3 inventory slots for more death runes.

Stock respawns every ~24 minutes: After clearing 20-30 worlds, revisit first world — stock will be restocked. Or take a break and do another activity.

Buy limit: 25,000 per 4 hours: You can't buy more than 25k death runes from GE per 4 hours. No limit on shop purchases though!

Combine with other shop runs: Do battlestaff runs, rune runs, or herb runs between death rune respawns for extra profit.

Why Yanille Magic Guild is Key

The Magic Guild in Yanille (requires 66 Magic) stocks 1,000 death runes compared to 250 at other shops. This 4x larger stock means you can fill your inventory much faster. One world at Yanille = 40k profit. Same time spent at Varrock only nets 10k profit due to smaller stock.

If you're just starting and don't have 66 Magic yet, focus on training Magic to unlock Yanille. The profit increase from 300k/hr to 600k+/hr makes it worth the time investment.

Perfect Alt Account Money Maker

Many players run this method on alt accounts while doing other activities on their main. Since it's safe (no combat, no risk), you can set up 1-2 alts doing death rune shop runs while your main does Slayer, PvM, or skilling. This is essentially free money that requires minimal attention — just hop worlds every 30-60 seconds.

The startup capital is low (~100k to buy first batch), making it accessible for new accounts. And because there's no combat or skill requirements beyond basic Magic levels, even a fresh account can start profiting within a few hours of creation.

When NOT to Do Death Rune Runs

If GE price drops below 230 GP, the profit margin becomes too thin (~30 GP per rune = 30k per world instead of 40k). Check current prices at GE Tracker before starting. Ideal price is 240-250 GP for maximum profit.
